What a DIET does
A District Institute of Education and Training is the main academic institution for elementary education in an Indian district. DIETs were set up under a national scheme for teacher education in the late 1980s and work with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) in each state.
They are where district teachers are trained, supported and connected to current research and policy.
Teacher education programmes for future elementary teachers, such as the D.El.Ed.
Ongoing professional development for serving teachers, head teachers and school leaders.
Guidance for schools, cluster and block resource centres on classroom practice.
Action research, learning assessments and material development for local needs.
